The objective of the three-year Bachelor’s degree in health education is to prepare professionals with general socio-scientific knowledge covering educational and psychological disciplines, who will be ready to continue in the follow-up Master’s degree in Teaching health education. During the course, emphasis is placed on the development of professional skills and knowledge in health science, psychosocial areas and related scientific disciplines that the graduates will use in a practical context or in the Master’s degree. Part of the study will be to gain field-specific knowledge and skills in schools and institutions aimed at primary and secondary prevention.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- based on the knowledge in health science to create a holistic concept of health
- use adequate resources
- understand and lead a professional debate on field-specific resources
- produce their own text, presentation, project, etc.
- apply the knowledge, skills and abilities in the capacity of an assistant teacher in health edu.
- apply the knowledge, skills and abilities in the capacity of a professional in health
- understand the role of an individual and society in health promotion and protection
The knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired during the studies form the basis of professional competences. The graduate will have a basic professional degree with a didactic component and will be ready to continue in the follow-up Master’s degree in teaching health education or specialized study of health education. According to Section 20 of Act No. 563/2004 Coll., on educational staff as amended, the graduate can work as an assistant teacher, instructor in free-time centres, educator in youth centres, educator in after-school clubs, or in various civil associations engaged in educational activities.
The Bachelor’s degree in health education consists of a scientific component, teaching specialization and a group of courses in compliance with the standard of Masaryk University (final thesis, language training, physical education, etc. – general university courses).
The scientific component includes field-specific knowledge and skills relevant to the developments in the field. The outcome of the degree in the academic component is solid and well-structured knowledge and skills in the field. The teaching specialization consists of an educational and psychological module, a didactic component and practical teacher training.
The standard length of the study is 6 semesters. Health education with a focus on teaching is combined with another optional course. For admission to the final examination the students must obtain 180 credits in required subjects, selective and elective subjects. In each course the students must obtain 55 credits (110 credits in total for both academic courses), in the teaching specialization the students must obtain 45 credits (didactic component for 1 course – 5 credits, reflection on practical teacher training – 8 credits, educational and psychological module – 27 credits), the minimum number of credits in selective and elective subjects is 9 credits, compulsory physical education and languages are 8 credits and the final thesis (including 3 subjects) is 8 credits. Furthermore, all students must complete the internationalization subject, which deepens the students’ scientific knowledge and skills in an international context and helps develop their language competences in world languages.
During the course of study, the students shall follow the study catalogue of their matriculation year. The study catalogues of different matriculation years can be accessed through the faculty website.
An integrating component of the studies includes reflected practical teacher training. The system of practical teacher training is designed to develop the students’ professional competences also by means of reflections of the educational reality and self-reflections. In this way the students become fully competent experts in the area of health education.
The content of the final state examination in health education consists of Health education with didactic skills and defence of a Bachelor's thesis.

Graduates from the Bachelor’s degree may (subject to accession criteria) continue in the follow-up Master’s degree in Teacher training for Primary and Lower Secondary Schools – Teaching Health Education
