Biophysical Chemisty – Field of study catalogue MU
Biophysical Chemisty“Nature is a permanently open book.” |
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- understand the physico-chemical nature of biological processes in wide context;
- master modern methods of research at the borderline of physics, chemistry and biology
- design and study of new molecules with specific physico-chemical properties;
- aply new biophysical approaches in both research and practice (biotechnology, biomedicine);
- present and interpret research results in both native and English languages;
The study plan for Master's degree in Biophysical Chemistry is designed so that each student can (except for obligatory courses) choose courses focused on his or her interest. The Master's degree graduate will handle chemical, physical and selected biological disciplines on higher level that Bachelor's study.
Mandatory courses taught in chemistry programmes, including biophysical chemistry, are: lectures, relevant seminars, laboratory exercises and a course focused on writing a Diploma's thesis. Optional courses are those which are taught at the Faculty of Science and other faculties of Masaryk University, and the students are permitted to enrol in them. The selection of optional courses is determined by the obligation to earn a minimum of 120 credits for all courses, including at least 108 credits for courses in the field of chemical sciences. Elective courses particularly suitable for an graduate study programme in chemistry are listed in the study plan as recommended optional courses.
In developing the study plan, each student must adhere to the following terms and conditions. They have to:
1) enroll in all compulsory courses in the recommended study plan. The enrollment in some courses of the following semester, though, can exceptionally be predetermined by the successful completion of a course in the previous semester;
2) complete a compulsory course in each academic year without the credit rating: C7777, Handling Chemical Substances. This course is completed by successfully passing a test. Completing C7777 is a prerequisite for admission to all courses in which handling chemicals (laboratory, a separate project, thesis, etc.)takes place;
3) complete successfully all compulsory and selective courses, respecting the established continuity, before the Master's final state examination;
4) earn at least 120 credits from all compulsory, optional and selective courses;
5) write a diploma thesis on a given topic;
6) be successful in all components of the graduate state examination (the defence of diploma thesis and the Master final state examination).
