The study of the postgraduate Master’s degree study programme in musicology is based on understanding, reflecting, and analysing different approaches to music in broader cultural contexts.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- understand, reflect, and analyse different approaches to music in broader cultural contexts
- be acquainted with the methodological, analytical and sociological conceptions of the milieu of music culture
- comprehend and interpret intonation and rhythm
- define and explain both historical and systematic disciplines of musicology
- analyse, transcribe, and edit written records of music
- characterize, explain, and evaluate different methods of music analysis of chamber and orchestral works
- practically master music journalism and criticism; teach lessons in music history
Graduates with this degree have knowledge in the area of the theory and history of music. This competence qualifies them to work in the areas of research (academic institutions, archives, and museums), music industry management (electronic media, especially broadcasting, music publishing, and the recording industry), concert management, and music education. Graduates may find jobs in museums, libraries, and others specialized institutions as well as among the editorial staff (culture) in the media, in recording companies, and at art agencies. Graduates will be able, in their occupations in cultural institutions, to react better to the present social demand of expanding the limits of genres of art in the multicultural, multi-genre. and inter-media contexts. In addition to the practical use of their knowledge, they will also be able to conduct further research development.
