After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

• carry out chemical experiments and analyse experimental results
• use chemical information sources to find relevant information
• identify and solve chemical problems in various areas of science and production
• safely handle chemical compounds and explain and supervise their usage among chemists and non-chemists
• perceive historical, social and environmental aspects of chemical research and production
• propose proper didactic tools in order to communicate chemical concepts and theories to non-chemists
• choose proper methods to test and evaluate the educational progress
• possess proficiency in written and verbal presentation and communication skills

Graduates are fully qualified as chemistry teachers for all types of secondary schools.

The standard duration of studies is four semesters. To be admitted to the final state examination, students must obtain a total of 120 ECTS credits for required, selective and elective courses. The required courses and credits are equally balanced between both studied subjects. A fraction of the required credits is earned for courses in pedagogy and psychology, for courses in fundamentals of natural and social sciences and for practical training. A Master's thesis is chosen in one of the study fields. Students may find the exact number of the required, selective and elective courses and recommended study plans in the Course Catalogue for their year of matriculation.

Two long-term practical trainings are an obligatory part of the curriculum. The first one is to be completed at one of the cooperating Brno high schools, the second one - at a high school of a student's own choice. An experienced high school teacher acts as a student's tutor and supervisor during both training periods. The trainings consist of sitting in on classes, students' presentations and participation in the school operation.

The final state examination consists of two oral exams, namely chemistry and chemistry didactics. Provided the student has chosen the subject of his Master's thesis within the field of chemistry, the defence of the thesis is a part of the final state examination. An obligatory part of the final state examination is a written test on foundations of pedagogy and psychology.

After completion of the Master's degree programme, it is possible to continue further studies in any PhD study programme.
