The study field Specialization in Pedagogy is a combination of two study fields: Field XY for education and the field Special Education with a view to Education. The programme is focused on forming specialized, pedagogical, psychological, communication and other individual competences as a step to the follow-up Master's study of Special Education with a view to Education.
The goal of this study field Special Education with a view to Education is to prepare teaching assistants for special pedagogical work in classrooms established for students with special education needs (SVP) in primary and lower secondary schools, in schools for SVP children, in special schools and school institutes. This field is realized in daily and combined modes. It is set out according the current standards of the Accreditation Committee for Special education. It is divided into 5 special parts that contains two fields – speech therapy and the education of pupils with hearing impairments, the education of pupils with mental impairment and also the education of pupils with physical disabilities, visual impairment and behavioural problems and the new field of speech therapy. These specializations form a base for the follow-up Master's degree.
The Bachelor's degree does not contain a teaching element. The Bachelor's degree will give future teachers a solid academic base in one or two fields.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- Show general knowledge and skills in special education
- Show academic special knowledge and skills in special education
- Master assistant education, pedagogical and communication knowledge and skills
- Apply approaches of education and pedagogy to children and students with special education needs (SEN) in to their schooling
- Work with children/students with special education needs on the level of teaching assistant
- Methodologically suggest and process case studies of students with SEN
Graduates have the competences for the education of children/students with special educational needs according to the law 379/2015 SB (amended) 563/2004 SB., on pedagogical staff. The characteristics of assistant work positions: Teaching assistant in mainstream schools, at schools for students with special educational needs, educator at special schools and school facilities for students with special educational needs, in social administration, company management, etc. These competences also qualify graduates for work as an instructor at after school activity centres focussed on special pedagogy.
The graduate of Education with a view to Education has the following knowledge: general, scientific and special (special pedagogy foundation, specialization in special pedagogy). Determination of the output knowledge and skills – general, academic, and specialized: general foundation: pedagogy-psychology in common core subjects, foreign language (AJ, NJ) methodology, internationalization of special education, introduction in special needs education, inclusive special pedagogy, introduction in health study, patho-psychology, medical propedeutics (pediatric, neurology, ORL phoniatry, psychiatry, opthalmology), sociology special needs teachers, inclusive education, specialization: education of pupils with mental impairments, speech therapy, education of pupils with hearing impairments, physical disabilities, visual impairment and behavioural problems. The standard study time is 3 years (6 semesters). For the final examination, the students have to gain 180 credits in required, selective and elective courses. The students follow the study catalogue of their Master's degree year of matriculation. Access to the catalogues can be found on the faculty website.

In the double-subject degree the teacher training is organised within the pedagogical-psychological subjects for Bc. studies based on the Manual for Teacher Training (authors Bartoňová, M., Pipeková, J. Brno: MU, 2011). More information http://www.ped.muni.cz.
The final state examination:

Mandatory part
Inclusive special pedagogy (written test 50 questions)
Optional part: Students will pick a subject from group A and another subject from group B. If the student wants to continue in the Master's programme – Special pedagogy for Educators, then they pick a question on speech therapy and the education of pupils with mental impairment from group B. In both fields students will get 2 questions.
Option A: Speech therapy and education of pupils with mental impairments
Option B: Education of pupils with hearing impairments, physical disabilities, visual impairment, behavioural problems and the education of pupils with mental impairments
It is possible to continue and study the Master's programme - Teaching for Primary or Lower Secondary schools
