Teacher Training in Foreign Languages - English Language“All the world's a classroom” |
The Bc. study programme is to provide the students with basic knowledge and skills in various areas of linguistics, literature, culture and history of English-speaking countries and the foundations of didactics. It is assumed that to obtain a comprehensive teacher education the graduates will continue their studies in the Master's degree, which will focus on the study of English language teaching methodology and creating relationships between different linguistic, cultural and literary disciplines and didactics of English. The idea of the study programme envisages a Master's degree with didactic culmination of all disciplines and the application of lessons learned from linguistics, literature, history and culture on teaching practice in primary and lower secondary schools and language schools.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

The final state examination is designed as a written test (the passmark for all the three individual subtests is 65%). Areas of knowledge and skills that the applicant is to demonstrate in the test include the content listed in the syllabi of all compulsory linguistic, literary and cultural and educational subjects. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of knowledge gained, e.g. in the form of critical work with text. Within the test, the level of written English is also evaluated (C1 according to CEFR). The spoken language at the same level is assessed in the examination of the subject Practical Language 3A - C1 and within the thesis defense (if the applicant submits a Bachelor's thesis at the Department of English, which is almost a must for single-subject studies).
