After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

• clearly and persuasively articulate basic theoretical and methodological knowledge of philosophy, psychology, religious studies, sociology, political science, law, and economics
• explain the relationship between different social science disciplines, including their overlaps into the fields of science and engineering
• reflect assumptions, the nature and value starting-points of different trends in thought and opinions
• use the obtained knowledge of teaching methods and forms and design educational content
• assess the topicality and relevance of particular trends in thought and argue in favour of their own proposed solution

The main occupational profile of graduates is the profession of teacher of the subject of Humanities and Social Sciences Basics at secondary schools. In addition, graduates can find jobs as teachers at public and private educational institutions or as workers in publishing companies focused on educational and pedagogical literature. The graduates will be prepared to design educational contents of a subject based on the focus and the needs of the educational institutions.

The standard duration of the study programme is four semesters. For admittance to the final state examination, students must earn a total of 120 ECTS credits for type A/required, type B/selective, and type C/elective courses. Required courses constitute the courses in education, psychology, general didactics, the disciplines of humanities and social sciences, teaching methodology, and practical training. Students enrol in type B/selective and type C/elective courses on the basis of their previous studies; these courses should complement their knowledge of the disciplines studied at the Bachelor’s degree level. Students can also attend courses focusing on the culture of spoken and written language or developing their educational, psychological, social, and communication skills. For all students, there is an obligation to pass a foreign language exam according to the terms established for language competence of MU graduates.

During the course of their studies, students should follow the study catalogue valid for their year of matriculation. The study catalogues for the individual years of matriculation are available at the Faculty of Arts website.

A four-week practical training at secondary school is an obligatory part of the curriculum. Students also receive so-called classroom hours as part of the teaching methodology, within the range specified by the relevant teacher. An integral part of the teaching methodology is also feedback on the practical training.

The final state examination consists of four parts: 1) the thesis defence (if the Master’s thesis is not completed in the other study programme within a double-subject study programme); 2) written exam in education and psychology; 3) oral exam in humanities and social sciences; and 4) oral exam in teaching methodology.

Diploma theses defence takes the form of a public presentation with a response to the reviewer report and subsequent discussions. The written exam in education and psychology is based on the compulsory courses. At the oral examination, students are asked two questions, one on the theme of humanities and social science basics and one on teaching methodology; the questions correspond to the assigned subject areas which students have available in advance.

After completing the Master’s degree study programme, it is possible to continue further studies in a doctoral degree study programme (after satisfying the admission requirements). The Faculty of Arts doesn't offer follow - up Doctoral's degree in Teacher Training's study programmes.
