The objective of the programme is to prepare graduates for the profession of a teacher of health education in primary and lower secondary schools and in the respective years of multi-year grammar schools, to develop professional skills and gain knowledge from the area of health science, the psychosocial area and related scientific disciplines, which the graduates will use in teaching or during their doctoral degree, to gain knowledge and skills related to health science in a school environment, to develop knowledge and skills related to health science for the purposes of practical applications, and to develop the basic attitudes and values of the graduates so that they become active, responsible and independent members of their professional group and society.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- apply the knowledge in various didactic categories
- formulate research questions related to health education and its application in the teaching process
- formulate hypotheses, use research techniques
- develop their own educational project
- evaluate the resources for use in teaching health education in schools
- apply the competences of a teacher
- demonstrate knowledge of the basic documents that govern the educational process in schools
- apply the knowledge and skills in the capacity of a professional in health promotion and health protection in the public sector, non-profit organizations and the private sector
The field-specific component includes knowledge and skills relevant to the developments in the field. The outcome of this part of the programme is solid and well-structured knowledge and skills in the field. The teaching specialization consists of an educational and psychological module, didactic component and teaching practice.
The standard length of the study is 4 semesters. Teaching health education for primary and lower secondary schools is combined with another chosen field. For admission to the final examination the students must obtain 120 credits in required subjects, core selective subjects and elective subjects. In each course the students must obtain 26 credits (52 credits in total for both field-specific courses), in the teaching specialization the students must obtain 41 credits (didactic component for 1 course – 7 credits, reflection on teaching experience – 14 credits, educational and psychological module – 13 credits), the minimum number of credits in elective subjects is 6 credits, foreign languages are 7 credits and the final thesis (including 3 subjects) is 14 credits. Furthermore, all students must complete the internationalization subject, which deepens the students’ knowledge and skills in the international context and helps develop their language competences in world languages.
