The aim of the study programme Special Adult Education is to prepare graduates for work in assessment, intervention, education and counselling not only in the field of education, but also within the scope of work and social affairs and the ministry of interior affairs. Special Adult Education focusses on adults with special needs, especially those with disabilities and social disadvantages. As well as adult education, the programme focusses on other aspects of life including work opportunities, independent living and free time activities. The programme reacts to demographic changes, mainly the ageing population, which results in higher numbers of people with dementia on the one hand and those living actively up to old age on the other.
