The study is particularly recommended to present primary school teachers whose education does not meet the requirements of the relevant paragraphs of the quoted Act No. 563/2004 Coll. on Pedagogical Staff as subsequently amended.
Pedagogical and psychological courses are an equal part of the studies, providing theoretical foundations for special didactics. The Special Education for Teachers study field runs in both full-time and distant modes. It is subdivided into six specialisations, considering the handicap type of pupils with special educational needs and one optional specialization related to specific learning disabilities. The compulsory optional specializations comprise intellectual, physical and multiple disability, speech disorders in connection with intellectual disability, visual and hearing impairments, behavioural disorders in connection with intellectual disability and addictology. There is direct continuation from the Bachelor's degree programme in Special Education. It is prepared in accordance with the Accreditation Commission Standards for the Special Education degree programme as currently amended and in accordance with the current legislation.
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- Make use of the broad special knowledge and skills of special education
- Make use of basic communicative knowledge and skills
- Make use of the knowledge and skills from the study field, communicative and educational knowledge and skills
- Apply the approaches to the education of pupils with special educational needs in teaching (individual approach as well as working with groups)
- Work with children and pupils with special educational needs at the level of a special educational needs teacher (special educational diagnostics, individual educational plan, intervention, work both with an individual and a group)
- Methodologically design and adapt research in the education of a pupil with special educational needs, use arguments in favour of the chosen procedure
The standard length of the programme is 2 years (4 semesters). To be admitted to the final state examinations, students have to gain a total of 120 credits in required, selective and elective courses. Students follow their studies in accordance with the study catalogue of their matriculation year. The thesis defence (if it is assigned at the department or even if it is assigned at a different department, e.g. psychology, the topic will always be special education. See the Special Standards of Special Education for the Final Works (http://www.ped.muni.cz/wsedu).
The student chooses two questions from the state final examinations course from the required part, from one course from the selective part and from the elective part if they picked it as a final state examination course.
