The programme is aimed at offering gifted and talented students who got their Master's degree an opportunity to pursue their studies in doctoral study programme of Physics, namely in well-established and traditionally well-respected fields of research within the Faculty of Science and cooperating institutes, especially the Academy of Sciences. In the course of their studies, the students of the programme become research team members and participate in research projects within the framework of targeted funding programmes. They are taught to conduct their own research independently and creatively after completing their doctoral studies. The requirements for graduation include publications in renowned journals abroad, active participation in scientific fora and a long-term internship abroad which guarantees that they will be able to communicate with their partners abroad through English and other foreign languages. The goal is to educate experts who are able to work independently at Czech universities and research and development institutions, and are potentially employable in any foreign country.

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

  • apply extensive expertise in physics of waves and particles, which is a very general field overlapping optics, electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, instrumentation and other areas
  • demonstrate practical experience with experimenting and constructing laboratory equipment
  • independently and creatively conduct scientific research whose results are published in renowned journals in physics
  • utilise their experience gained during long-term internships abroad at high quality institutions conducting research in physics and follow good scientific practice in research
  • actively communicate in English or another world language
  • (with regard to the necessity to show a deep understanding of concepts of physics) understand and adapt to physics problems beyond the scope of their specialization
  • demonstrate good knowledge and abilities in utilising computer technology
  • apply appropriate methods and handle complex experimental apparatus
  • present conceptual model of a research problem; collect and interpret experimental data
  • formulate and solve complex problems using appropriate mathematical tools

The graduates are well prepared to work within their specialization. They can also easily find employment in other disciplines of physics, in disciplines at the interface between natural sciences and engineering sciences and also in some unorthodox areas. In the Brno region there are several successful companies that specialize in this field of physics. Therefore, the graduates have no difficulty finding appropriate employment. They can work at universities, at institutes of the Academy of Sciences and at other institutes that carry out research related to applied physics. They can utilize their qualifications even in less traditional areas such as managerial positions or state administration positions dealing with education and science.
