- Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesisThe state doctoral exam content consists in an academic debate. Topics of the debate are related to selected optional literature. The exam takes usually 20 minutes.
The student selects five books that must be related to the subject of his or her dissertation. Selection is a matter of confirmation by the chair of the doctoral board. Therefore, the student has to submit the list no later than a month prior to the date of exam. - Requirements of the studyDoctoral study of International Relations and European Politics can be conducted either in a full-time (on-site) or part-time (distant) form. Its standard duration is 8 semesters, while it can be prolonged if justified appropriately and with a consent of supervisor and the chair of doctoral board. The study is based on a credit system (ECTS). To apply for a thesis defence and to take part in the final state exam, a student must achieve 240 ECTS (out of which 220 ECTS must be achieved for passing compulsory course and 20 ECTS for passing optional courses.
The student has to publish at least two articles in the peer-reviewed scholar journals indexed in international databases (Web of Science, Scopus). Study or working stay abroad lasting at least three months of a continuous presence at the host institution is another compulsory part of the study workload.
Individual study plan of a doctoral student envisages intense participation of the students at the research and pedagogical activities of the department, typically in for of teaching assistance (evaluation of term papers, supervision of seminar teaching, supervision of written testing etc.) or participation at the research projects (typically on departmental research projects). Particular form of participation at peadgogical activities is a subject of an agreement among the student, the supervisor and the head of the department. - Proposal of dissertation topics and topics of defended dissertations1) International Security and Regional Security Complexes.
