- Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesisIn order to pass the state PhD exam the students are required to prepare five scholarly topics connected with theory of narrative, its history and practice, or with other theories from wider scholarly framework connected with narrative. During the exam the students elaborate on two of this topics in more detail.
- Requirements of the studyThe key constituents of the study requirements are interconnected with the process of writing a PhD thesis which is supposed to have a form of a unified scholarly publication based on an original research conducted by the student. Study requirements are set in a student’s individual study plan and besides the duty to pass obligatory courses the students are supposed to present the results of their own research – the students have to attend at least two scholarly conferences according to their research topics and also publish at least one acholarly article in a respected journal.
Aa a part of the PhD studies the students are supposed to undertake a research stay at a foreign university or research institution chosen with regard to the students’ research topics. The total amount of the weeks of a student’s research stays should be equal one term.
The obligatory courses can be divided to four sets. First, courses directly connected with a successful completion of the PhD studies: PhD Thesis (NARD11), PhD Exam (NARD12) and PhD Thesis (NARD13).
Second, courses focused on research and methodology: Methodology of Literary Criticism (in English, Methods, Analyses, and interpretation (CLDS_26) and Narratology – Selected Problems (NARD45).
Third, general obligatory courses: Philosophy for PhD students (PHDZ1 and PHDZ2) and Foreign Language Courses – the students can choose (CJV_D_A, CJV_D_F, CJV_D_N, CJV_D_R, CJV_D_S). Four, courses developing the students’ scholarly skills: Foreign Stay (NARD13), Domestic Article (NARD33), Presentation at Foreign Conference (NARD34) and Presentation on Domestic Conference (NARD35).
Beside the obligatory courses the students are supposed to pass four of the key-optional courses. The offer of the key-optional courses is unified for PhD studies in literature at all philological departments: Multilingualism and Cultural Interfaces (ROMDJK), Intermediality and Adaptation (CLDS_a27), Selected Chapters in Literary and Cultural Theory (AJ34140), Chapters from World Literature (NJDSLAJ4_31), Fiction and Fictionality (NARD51), Methodology of Literary and Cultural History (NJDSL4_30).
In order to comlete the requiored number of credits the students can further choose from the further selection of optional courses. - Proposal of dissertation topics and topics of defended dissertationsA Critical Analysis of Systemic Aspects of Particular Concepts of Narrative Theory.
