Course objectives
Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

  • Lesson 1 - Where are they from? • VOCABULARY ( numbers, countries, nationalities, days, months) • GRAMMAR (present simple TO BE, pronouns) • PRACTICAL LANGUAGE: Saying hello Lesson 2 - What’s in your handbag? • VOCABULARY (common objects, family) • GRAMMAR (plurals, articles, determiners) • PRACTICAL LANGUAGE: classroom language Lesson 3 – Who’s your ideal partner? • VOCABULARY (basic verb phrases) • GRAMMAR (present simple, object pronouns) • WRITING (an informal letter / e-mail) Lesson 4 - What do you do? • VOCABULARY (jobs) • GRAMMAR (possessive ‘s, a, an + jobs) • PRACTICAL LANGUAGE: At a hotel Lesson 5 - What does he look like? • VOCABULARY (adjectives) • GRAMMAR (using adjectives, telling the time, prepositions of time, ordinal numbers, writing the date) Lesson 6 - What do you do every day? • VOCABULARY (daily routine) • GRAMMAR (adverbs of frequency) Lesson 7 - what are you doing at the moment? • VOCABULARY (verb phrases GO, HAVE, GET) • GRAMMAR (present continuous) Lesson 8 - How do I get to the nearest bus stop? • VOCABULARY (town and city) • GRAMMAR (present simple x present continuous) • PRACTICAL LANGUAGE: Giving directions Lesson 9 - Can you swim? • VOCABULARY (more verb phrases) • GRAMMAR (can / can't) Lesson 10 - What do you like doing in your free time? • VOCABULARY (leisure time activities + housework) • GRAMMAR (like + -ing, would like + to, possessive pronouns – mine, yours, etc.) • PRACTICAL LANGUAGE: Speaking about likes and dislikes Lesson 11 - Where were you last night? • VOCABULARY (past time expressions) • GRAMMAR (past simple of the verb TO BE) Lesson 12 - Where did you go on holiday last summer? • VOCABULARY (holidays; weather) • GRAMMAR (past simple, regular & irregular verbs) • WRITING (a postcard) Lesson 13 - Is there a bed in the bedroom? • VOCABULARY (prepositions of place, houses and furniture) • GRAMMAR (there is/are, there was/were) • WRITING: Booking a hotel room Lesson 14 - How much milk do you have? • VOCABULARY (food and drinks) • GRAMMAR (determiners, quantifiers) • WRITING: Recipe Lesson 15 - Where are you going for holidays? • VOCABULARY (revision) • GRAMMAR (be going to - plans, predictions) • WRITING: E-mail to a friend Lesson 16 - Will it rain tomorrow? • VOCABULARY (weather) • GRAMMAR (will - predictions, decisions, offers, promises; will or going to?) Assessment methods
Credit requirements: active participation in the classes (a maximum of 2 absences is permitted), fulfilling the teacher's requirements (homework, mid tests, etc.), a final test (min. 60%)
