Course objectives
The Corporate Economy I course is a relatively independent introduction to the fundamentals of teaching business management. It acquaints students with the subject matter, methods of study, description of business economy and the construction of a firm. It clarifies objectives of the company, division of corporate production factors and their mutual relations. It focuses on general issues of corporate economics and economic events in the enterprise, regardless of affiliation to a particular field or industry, its profit or non-profit making character. Along with the follow-up course of Corporate Economy II, focusing on interpretation of basic business functions and activities, it provides a comprehensive view of a firm.
The objective of the course is for students to obtain basic theoretical and practical knowledge of principles of constructing a company. Passing the course students should be able to:
- clarify the subject matter and methods of analyses and structure of business economy
- interpret the structure of business production factors, their relationships and layout
- identify various types and forms of enterprises
- understand causes and forms of business associations
- assess both national and multinational choice of company location
- analyze crisis and development of a company and explain characteristic features of stages of a corporate life cycle

The knowledge acquired in this course is further developed in a follow-up course of Corporate Economy 2 focusing on business activities and functions. Together they provide a comprehensive view of a firm.
