Course objectives
At the end of the course student should be able to understand and explain a general technical principles about computer systems operation.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to understand basic principles of digital computers; understand the design of numerical systems used in computer technology and convert numbers between systems; will understand the principles of storing information, coding and storing texts. The student will understand the principles of the elementary processor and its programming at the lowest level.

  • Terms, history, computer generations, categories.
  • Numeral systems, differences between systems, integer, arithmetics.
  • Codes, internal, external, ECC.
  • Electronic circuits, memories: parameters, architecture.
  • Processor, programming, microprogramming.
  • Architectures: RISC/CISC, cache memories.

Teaching methods
The course contains facultative lectures and continuous e-learning testing in IS MU. The emphasis is laid on individual independent and continuous computer work during the term.
Assessment methods
The student must complete the weekly interim tasks. Failure to complete tasks means awarding an X grade. The colloquium will be conducted in the form of an independent solution to the task.

Cílem předmětu je poznání základů digitální logiky, zobrazení dat na úrovni stroje, organizace počítače na strojové úrovni, hierarchie pamětí, I/O, multiprocesorů a dalších alternativních architektur.

  • Digitální logika: Boolova algebra, minimalizace a optimalizace logických výrazů, kombinační a sekvenční logické obvody, moderní návrh číslicových systémů (HDL jazyky, simulace ap.), programovatelné obvody
  • zobrazení dat na úrovni stroje: bit, byte, reprezentace čísel/dat, číselné soustavy, pevná/pohyblivá čárka, základní operace
  • organizace počítače na strojové úrovni: model von Neumann, model Harward, instrukce strojového jazyka, princip činnosti řadič-procesor-paměť, adresovací módy, podprogramy, režimy procesoru, přerušení
  • hierarchie pamětí: cache paměť, virtuální paměť, paměti SRAM, DRAM, SDRAM, DDRAM apod.

Course objectives (in Czech)
Cílem předmětu je poznání základů digitální logiky, zobrazení dat na úrovni stroje, organizace počítače na strojové úrovni, hierarchie pamětí, I/O, multiprocesorů a dalších alternativních architektur.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • Digitální logika: Boolova algebra, minimalizace a optimalizace logických výrazů, kombinační a sekvenční logické obvody, moderní návrh číslicových systémů (HDL jazyky, simulace ap.), programovatelné obvody
  • zobrazení dat na úrovni stroje: bit, byte, reprezentace čísel/dat, číselné soustavy, pevná/pohyblivá čárka, základní operace
  • organizace počítače na strojové úrovni: model von Neumann, model Harward, instrukce strojového jazyka, princip činnosti řadič-procesor-paměť, adresovací módy, podprogramy, režimy procesoru, přerušení
  • hierarchie pamětí: cache paměť, virtuální paměť, paměti SRAM, DRAM, SDRAM, DDRAM apod.
  • I/O: sběrnice, interfacing, vnější paměti a periferie, programovaný I/O, I/O a přerušení, DMA, sběrnice (ISA, PCI , AGP), standardy rozhraní (USB, RS232, Ethernet, IrDa, Centronics), přehled periferií, disky, RAID
  • multiprocesory a další alternativní architektury: SIMD, MIMD, MISD, multiprocesory, pipe-lining (zřetězení), superskalární a VLIW architektury procesorů, systolické architektury, grafické a DSP procesory, propojovací sítě, paralelní systémy
  • mikrokontroléry, vestavěné systémy, optimalizovaný návrh s ohledem na příkon, výkonnost, cenu, čas, systém na čipu( moderní trendy návrhu vestavěných systémů)
