Cíle předmětu
This course is the introductory course in the track devoted to Common Language Infrastructure and related technologies. The goal is to provide introduction into C# language (the lectures will be based on version 2.0 of the language) and introduction of basic principles of the CLI platform.

  • The C# language, historical background, relationship with other modern programming languages and paradigms.
  • Elementary principles of structured and object oriented programming, manipulating objects, structure of objects.
  • Basic supporting language constructs.
  • Object oriented programming principles in class based languages, interfaces, Polymorphism and inheritance.
  • Strings (Unicode), control flow constructs, arrays and other complex data types. Value and reference types. C# type system.
  • Advanced concepts. Static and sealed methods. Delegates and anonymous methods. Elementary containers.
  • Container classes and generics. The benefits of strongly typed containers.
  • Base Class Library Overview.
  • Error handling, exception handling, debugging constructs.
  • Programming with Views and Windows.Forms.
  • Programming networked applications, sockets, remoting, web services.
  • Overview of the CLI standard
  • Common Type System and Base Class Library, supported features, levels of conformance.
  • Meta-Data System and Assemblies. Compiling applications for the CLI. Common intermediate language.

Metody hodnocení
The lectures provide basic information on the topic, which is further extended in seminars. Also, homeworks and topics for self-study may be presented to students. The solutions to homeworks are provided in seminars, however students who manage to work out the homework solutions independently will gain bonus points. Examination is written and consists of two parts: a multi-choice test and two tasks for solving. Students can earn 100 points plus any bonus points from seminars. The exact requirements for passing the exam (in terms of points) will be provided at the examination.

  • Complementary Learning Materials
The books recommended for reading and self-study (see above) should be available at the faculty library for present attended borrowing. Moreover, many on-line courses and tutorials are available on the World Wide Web. Students are encouraged to look for such courses and materials and submit references to them to the teachers who may evaluate them and recommend them to the other students. Those, who manage to find such courses/materials will eventually receive bonus points.

  • Teaching in English
The lectures are given in English, nevertheless only basic language skills are required for understanding and communication. Seminars may be given in Czech, depending on the particular tutor. However, majority of seminars will be taught in English. English, considering this particular course, is seen as an advantage. Czech terminology does not exist in this field, there's no point in inventing one and students shall get used to studying English texts.
