- Course objectives
- The students would get the knowledge of current state-of-art in research of computer graphics architectures and graphics devices. Based on the study of recent research papers, the seminar will concentrate on the algorithms which are implemented in the inner layers of graphics architectures. The possibilities of parallel solutions and other theoretical and practical issues will be discusses.
At the end of this course, students
- will know various trends in CG development and "hot" research topics;
- gain knowledge of the underlying principles that led to the development of current GPU solutions;
- will be familiar with new developments in CG architectures;
- train and improve skills in written and oral presentation. - Syllabus
- Topics: Architecture of graphics controller. Components of graphics subsystem.
- Implementation of fundamental algorithms on the lowest levels of graphics architectures.
- Parallel solution and effective combination with textures and antialiasing.
- Specialized parallel rendering architectures.
- Architectures for parallel and distributed global illumination computation.
- Students read research papers, prepare presenations and discuss specifific issues in a broader context.
- Literature
- ACM Digital Library: SIGGRAPH, Virtual Reality Conf.Proc.
- FOLEY, James D. Computer graphics :principles and practice. 2nd ed. Reading: Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, 1990, 1174 s. ISBN 0-201-12110-7. info
- Teaching methods
- Students read the papers from selected domain of HW research. The papers are chosen from publications which initiated the respective research domain and also from the latest publications covering "hot" topics. Literature choice and following students presentations are focused on understanding the historical context and critics of current state-of-art. Students prepare presentations as HW assignments and present at seminar hours.
- Assessment methods
- Seminar on current research topics based on reading research papers. A combination of lectures's and students presentations (typically 2 per semester), with class discussion on selected topics. Asessment is based on active participation in discussions and on the quality of presentations.
- Language of instruction
- English
- Further comments (probably available only in Czech)
