The course is aimed at improving the knowledge of English, which should be intermediate at the beginning of the course. Students are allowed to attend the course if they pass the entrance test.

Cíle předmětu
The course aims to broaden the knowledge of English grammar and phrases acquired at secondary school and to focus on specialized language in the area of IT. One of the prerequisites for the completion of the course is home preparation and doing assignments. The course is designed for intermediate students. At the end of the course students should be able to: understand specialized articles; use the language fluently; talk about a wide range of IT related topics; provide relevant explanations and arguments. give clear descriptions and presentations; answer the questions spontaneously;

Metody hodnocení
Every student attending the seminar has to sit for four tests - two quarter-term tests (Weeks 4 and 10), one mid-term test submitted on one of the days of Week 7, all of these are multiple-choice tests, and the final VB035 one (submitted during or after Week 12) which has the following parts - a cloze test, a translation into English, and an explanation of IT terms. The requirements for the Quarter-Term Test 1 are as follows: all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-15 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy I + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and listening exercises heard up to Week 4 (inclusive). The requirements for the Mid-Term Test are as follows: all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-20 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy I + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and listening exercises heard up to Week 7. The requirements for the Quarter-Term Test 2 are as follows: all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-24 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy I and those of the Units 1-3 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and listening exercises heard up to Week 10 (inclusive). The requirements for the final VB035 test are as follows: all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-24 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy I + all the vocabulary, grammar and all the phrases of the Units 1-5 of Angličtina pro jazykové školy II + all the specialized vocabulary of the texts read and listening exercises heard up to Week 12. To complete the course, the student must reach at least 60 percent of the total (maximum) number of points that can be attained for all the tests. The students coming to a seminar without their homework will be considered absent from it. Attendance is compulsory.
