- Course objectives
- Explanation of theory and practice of personal safety.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course student is able to: - explain taxonomy of self-defence and combatives - explain theory of personal self-defence - know different self-defence systems and schools - practically demonstrate the basic techniques of self-defence - explain role of different factors in self-defence situation (psychology, technique, tactics)
- Syllabus
- Practical lessons enable to practice the knowledge acquired at theoretical lectures. 1. Introduction, influence of the culture and technology to understanding the need of personal safety 2. Theory of combatives, taxonomy of self-defense 3. Theory of martial arts 4. Strategy and tactics in self-defense 5. Awareness and reaction time 6. Cycle of Conflict 7. The need of physical development 8. Natural movements and manipulation with objects 9. Self-defense systems 10. Preventive movements: self-defence in children (making space, making self-confidence, games) 11. Preventive movements: self-defence in adults (pre-conflict, conflict, and post-conflict) 12. Conditioning in self-defense 13. Self-defense skills 14. Conclusions, questions and answers, ideas for further study
