Kinesiology, Algesiology and derived Techniques of Diagnostics and Therapy 2 - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Physiotherapy (programme FSpS, B-F) (2)
- Course objectives
- The subject is based on previous study of Kinesiology, Algesiology and derived Techniques of Diagnostics and Therapy 2 and further focuses on upper extremities. The main aim is to apprehend local kinesiology relations at the level of upper limb as well as global relations between trunk kinesiology and lower/upper limbs. Acquired knowledge is applied to understand underlying principles of examination and treatment techniques in the field of physiotherapy. The subject deals in detail with passive and active factors of stability of upper extremity motor segments. It gives causal definition of functional as well as structural physiology and pathology.
- Learning outcomes
- Successful completion of the subject guarantees student's ability to:
- understand kinesiology relations within trunk region.
- understand principles of special examination and therapy techniques.
- diagnose pathology, select appropriate treatment modality, execute treatment within subject extent.
- students will also be able to educate patients incl. instructions on self-therapy.
- the study of this subject prepares students to clinical activities with patients. - Syllabus
- Kinesiology of hand and wrist - function, joints, arches, passive and active stability of particular motor segments, clinical aspects, functional and structural pathology of this region.
- Kinesiology of arm, forearm and elbow - function, joints, passive and active stability of particular motor segments, clinical aspects, functional and structural pathology of this region.
- Kinesiology of shoulder - function, joints, passive and active stability of particular motor segments, clinical aspects, functional and structural pathology of this region.
- Kinesiology of upper extremity from the global motor patterns point of view.
- Practical seminars:
- Visual and tactile diagnostics of dermis. Barrier treatment in dermis within segmental reflexology incl. viscerocutaneous reflexes.
- Diagnostics and therapy of fascia incl. its role in functional pathology chains.
- Visual and tactile diagnostics of muscle tonus, strength, trophic. Special attention is paid to muscle testing according to V. Janda and muscle topography. Manual therapy of particular muscles incl. techniques of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation/inhibition.
- Diagnostics and therapy of periosteum points.
- Diagnostics of joints - active and passive range of motion, capsular patterns, joint play. Therapy of joints – manipulative and stabilization techniques, orthotics, taping.
- Application of above listed techniques of diagnostics and therapy to hand region incl. hand arches, wrist, elbow and shoulder girdle.

- Teaching methods
- Students will be exposed to the subject in a form of a lecture that will be followed by practical seminar. These seminars focus on manual techniques of examination and therapy. Students are organized in small groups. Each particular technique is first demonstrated by experienced tutors. Practical training is on peer to peer basis under close supervision of tutors and correction of precise technique.
- Assessment methods
- 100% presence at practical seminars, 70% mark acquisition from through-term tasks, 70% mark acquisition from through-term written tests and practical exams. Final written exam (minimum of 70% successful rate) and practical exam in front of the examination board of 3 examiners. The student is not qualified for final exam in case of not fulfilling the percentage of through-term tasks, through-term written tests and practical exams. Final written test and final practical exam contributes to 50 and 50% of final evaluation respectively (A-F).
