- Course objectives
- The course is devoted to the broader social context in which cities develop and 'operate'. After concise introduction of the discipline, the topic of urbanization is discussed. Commentary then shows definitions and classifications of cities. Internal structure of city is examined in detail, including useful tools developed for measurement of space differences. The course also shows results of some community studies and the different features of neighbourhoods. Influence of 'new urban sociology' is discussed and different perspectives on urban way of life is offered. The last session is aimed at problem of poor (deprived, excluded) neighbourhoods.
