Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the practical aspects of the negotiations (incl. strategy, tactics and lobbying) in the Council of the EU - at all levels (i.e. working groups, Coreper, Council) and including the preparations and coordination at the national level. The course is based on the practical experience acquired during Presidency of the Council of the EU. Students should be able to understand the most important aspects of negotiations in the EU - i.e. chairing, seek compromise, negotiate, building coalitions, searching for partners, etc. During the course students should be actively involved in practical exercises where they can learn and develop the key skills for negotiations on the EU level.

  • 1st intensive course (4 March 2011; 10,00 - 17,00)

  • - instructions for the tasks for each student
  • 2nd intensive course (29 April 2011; 10,00 - 17,00)
  • - presentations of the tasks (each student)
  • - presentations and practical exercises
  • - final simulation of the Council meeting
  • - final test
  • Students have to be active in both parts.

Teaching methods
opening presentation will be always linked with practical exercises, emphasis will be always placed on discussions, interactive approach, presentations, etc.
Assessment methods
To fulfil the requirements students have to: - be active in both of the two intesive courses - elaborate one task (received during the first intensive course) - written test (at the end of he second intensive course)
