Students enrolled in this course must have completed the introductory course to Demography. Working knowledge of Excel and good understanding of quantitative research methods will make your course participation more efficient. This is an MA level course and this defines the teaching style, the anticipated workload, and the level of student involvement. Reasonable ability to read, write and speak English is anticipated. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- This is a course in methods of demographic analysis which will combine lectures and Excel exercises. It will cover the following analytical tools: life table (single and decrement), fertility measures (period and cohort measures), standardisation techniques, population projections, evaluating data quality, indirect estimation methods.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, a student will be able to: - compute demographic rates, population growth & decline, population structure, mortality measures, Lexis diagram - calculate life tables: single and decrement life table, stable/stationary models / population - Use fertility measures: period and cohort fertility, conduct standardisation - Do and analyse basic population projections - evaluate data quality and perform indirect estimation
