Course objectives
Introduction to the sociological analysis of law. Knowledge of the most basic topics of the field and its main thinkers. To be able to locate and collect empirical material and subordinate it to some of the themes of the field.
Learning outcomes
Basic orientation in the typical topics of the social impact of law and their sociological explanation. To be able to apply the basic paradigms and to know the conditions and limits of their application. To deepen the ability of observation. Enhancement of the ability to formulate ideas in sociologically relevant language.
Syllabus
  • What is the law? What does the law "do" and how? Actors of law and the legal profession. Law as a system. Legal branches. Different legal families. The function and role of law in society. Non-functioning law? Extra-legal preconditions for the functioning of law. Creation of law and its limitations. Interface between law and other social systems (language, communication).
