Course objectives
The seminar deals with life situations that can be labeled as difficult or crisis (eg. family crisis, death, divorce, unemployment …). Students work on projects and learn to combine the experience and theory.
The main objectives of the course are:
linking theoretical information and practical experience
distinguish what is and is not help in cisis (general and individual perspective)
leading students to an awareness of the polarity of the cisis („call for change“, possibility to grow)
students are encouraged to understanding their own experience.
Syllabus
  • Basic topics:
  • 1. Crisis and its polarity (basic concepts, crises and trauma, causes, phases, models …)
  • 2. Basic principles of crisis intervention (overview of crisis and trauma intervention, crisis intervention strategie, the helper …)
  • 3. Application areas (e.g. psychological aspects of unemployment, suicide behavior, serious illness in the family, mental illness as a taboo, death and dying …)
