Course objectives
The course aims to familiarize students with the relationship between landscapes and cities, the historical development of landscape structures, rural and urban settlements. Student is able to present and analyse human acitivity in the landscape and in the city, is able to looking for possible solutions of specific land use problems.
Syllabus
  • Introduction, topics for students presentations and final essays, use of web mapping portals,
  • Historical development of cities
  • Urbanism and cities in the 20th century
  • Countryside and landscape - the transformation of rural areas and the countryside after the industrial revolution
  • Planning of the environment in Czechoslovakia (1918-1989)
  • Protection of nature and landscape - historical development in Central Europe
  • Current land use planning in Czech republic
  • Spatial plans in everyday life
  • Environmental aspects of the city
  • Nature friendly transport in the city
  • Environmental aspects of housing
  • Field trip: exploring the boundaries of the city and the countryside
Teaching methods
The teaching methods include lectures, student presentations and discussion, individual work with study resources and field trip with commentary.
Assessment methods
For successful completion of this course is required at least 60% attendance at lessons, oral presentation, the final essay and successful handling of the final test.
