- Course objectives
- The course is aimed at wider social context in which housing needs are satisfying. The introductory part informs students about the actual housing situation in the Czech Republic (and partly EU). Following five parts are based on sociological knowledge about housing. Thus, they relate to the human behavior within the residential environment, the perception of residential environment, housing preferences, the character of housing in the typical Czech housing estates - and finally - specifics of suburbanization and its social, economic and environmental implications. Last two parts are devoted to housing policy. Common features of west-European housing policy are outlined and then Czech housing policy is analyzed through the situation within the housing sectors. Students will be able to interpret and explain problems associated with housing issues with use of relevant sociological concepts and theories.
