- The course consists of independent study on a particular sociological topic not covered by courses currently available, and the syllabus is developed in consultation between the teacher and the student. This structure allows the student to gain in-depth knowledge on a topic of interest, which may also be related to the student’s Master’s thesis work. The course is designed to address sociological topics in greater detail than a traditional seminar course. After reading existing literature on the selected topic and discussing it with the teacher, the student writes a substantive (3,000-4,000 word) seminar paper, critically assessing the literature.
