- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the pillars of good teaching, the basics of pedagogy and psychology. Learners will take away from the course a knowledge of sub-topics of pedagogy, which they will be guided through and which they can then reflect on in their teaching practice. They will therefore learn the basics of respectful communication, how to design their own lessons, teaching methods, the basics of giving feedback and topics such as teaching large groups, creating materials for learners, learner assessment, etc. The aim of the course is also to improve learners' skills so that they can present the outputs of their scientific work in a concise, comprehensible, yet engaging manner in professional forums (typically at professional conferences). To do this, learners should acquire the necessary knowledge on how to choose the appropriate form, structure, and content of a presentation for a given audience. They should acquire the skills needed in the preparation and delivery of the presentation to maximise its success. The aim is to provide students with experiences and examples of good practice in terms of presenting in professional forums and in conducting teaching with regard to preparation, appropriate structure, delivery, interaction with the audience or dealing with questions. Learners will be introduced to common mistakes and learn how to avoid them.
