Course objectives
By listening to various recordings and reflecting on natural strategies in processing acoustical input students will develop during the semester higher proficiency in listening comprehension. Material used in this class stems from recordings of natural conversations between native speakers and radio broadcastings. In written form students will be asked to prepare short dialogs and to react in a letter to the editor on a radio programme.
Syllabus
  • - Listening to authentic recordings in German language (taken from the broadcasting service and similar sources),
  • - Training of the skills necessary for taking notes along listening,
  • - Staging of interactive situations in order to facilitate the understanding of the dialogs played from tape,
  • - Formulating a written reaction to a program on radio (letter to the editor)

Assessment methods
The course is taught in form of regular (weekly) classes. Students get acquainted with the standard techniques of listening comprehension, listen to recordings, take notes and react on the presented material. A certificate (zápočet) can be acquired on the basis of a written test assessing the student’s listening comprehension skills.
