Course objectives
The content of the seminar includes individual consultations of the selected themes with the head of the bachelor’s thesis and the first part of the bachelor thesis corresponding with the project – a study of reference books, classification of the theoretical knowledge, their critical evaluation, making the first theoretical and methodological data for the research of their own. Then, this is followed by the first stage of the research and its description, a precise recording and description of the obtained (linguistic) data, their classification as a starting point for their interpretation, evaluation and comparison with the previously set hypothesis and a base for writing the bachelor thesis.
It is presupposed after finishing the course:
- student has made 50 % of the research and he is able to explain the results of it;
- student has written syllabi of the theoretical chapters of the bachelor thesis.
Syllabus
  • 1 – Study of the reference books submitted in the bachelor thesis project will include:
  • a) Extension of the bibliographical data of the reference books of the theme;
  • b) Comparison of the reference books knowledge in the selected theme, their critical evaluation;
  • c) Setting up theoretical and methodological principles for the individual research.
  • 2 – Implementation of the research schedule, e.g.: a) Specification of the dialectological research procedure, collecting the linguistic material for the research of personal proper names, local names; spoken utterances; b) Implementation of the procedure of the selected texts language analysis and searching for the linguistic phenomena in them;
  • c) Implementation of the procedure of searching for the selected phenomena in the Czech National Corpus, etc.
  • 3 – Implementation of the research on the base of the bachelor thesis (dialectological research, research of the spoken utterances; analyses of artistic, journalistic, and administrative texts; submission of a questionnaire, utilization of the survey, interview), recording of the data. Classification of the obtained data.
  • . 4 – The credit requirements: the student will have to submit a part of the bachelor thesis project to the head of the project in writing.
