Course objectives
Students have the knowledge in the area of declination, conjugation and sentence structure from the historical point of view. Students are capable of recognizing phonetic, morphological, lexical and syntactiv features in the texts and they are also able to translate these texts into new-upper German with the help of dictionaries.
Syllabus
  • 1. Translation of selected extracts of old-upper German texts - Zweiter Merserburger Zauberspruch - Das Hildebrandslied - Das Wessobrunner Gebet 2. Translation of selected extracts of middle-upper German texts - Der von Kürenberger: Falkenlied - Das Niebelungenlied - Walther von der Vogelweide: "Ich saz úf eime steine..." 3. Translation of selected extracts of early-upper German texts - Fabian Frangk: Über die Dörinzer und Hartzländer - Martin Luther: Aus dem Sendbrief vom Dolmetschen 4. Developmental tendencies as a comparison of the old-upper, middle upper and early new-upper German vesions of an extract from Evangel Matthew (27, 5-8) 5. Comparison of previous extract with the translation to a Ghotic language (by a bishop Wulfila according to original in Greek)
