Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to understand the effect of stressors on mental and physical health and to clarify the possibilities and ways of coping with stress. Students will also be able to use the information to formulate practical recommendations on maintaining mental balance, health and prevention of the Burn-out syndrome. In the end students will also learn about contemporary approach of "mindfulness therapy" as a prevention of psychosomatic disorders.
Learning outcomes

Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to Health Psychology and Mental Hygiene. Basic terms, main approaches and related disciplines. 2. Concepts and definitions of health. Bio-psycho-socio-spiritual approach to health. Mental health, quality of life and adjustment. 3. Stress. Stressors and salutors. Coping strategies with stress. 4. Defence mechanisms and coping strategies. 5. Psychosomatics and behavioral medicine (development, different conceptions). 6. Basic psychosomatic illnesses (typology). 7. Psychosomatics in children. 8. Psychotherapy of psychosomatic illnesses. 9. Methods of relaxation, imagination, suggestion and autosuggestion. 10. Burn-out syndrome. Prevention and intervention in burn-out. 11. Mindfulness.
