Course objectives
The main objective of the course is a detailled information about education and support of people with visual impairment. At the end of the course, students should understand and work with information on: Categories of people with visual impairment, occurrence and causes, children with multiple disability, deaf-blind children, peculiarities of psychical process by visually impaired, system of education for visually impaired, counselling, special educational centres, technical aids, visual stimulation, mobility, orientation, guide dogs, spare time activities for visually impaired, vocational training, quality of life in visually impaired.
Learning outcomes
The student is oriented in the basic terminology of ophthalmology
Syllabus
  • The target group of people with visual impairment. Effect of visual impairment on an individual's personality (perception, thinking, attention, behavior, speech). Psychomotor development of a child with severe visual impairment.
  • Physiology of vision process. Development of visual perception.
  • Visual impairment, types of visual impairment, etiology, symptoms. Diagnostics of vision and visual functions from the perspective of a special educator.
  • Early intervention, forms and services.
  • Child with severe visual impairment at pre-school age (pre-school education of blind and sighted children, child with disturbed binocular vision and reeducation)
  • Child with severe visual impairment in school age. Specifics of teaching, didactical recommendations, support provision.
  • Compensatory aids for visually impaired and work with them. Use of computer technology in education of visually impaired.
  • The system of education of pupils with visual impairments in the Czech Republic.
  • Communication of persons with visual impairment - Braille -teaching and writing. Access to information.
  • Counselling and intervention: social service providers, services and counselling.
  • Mobility of visually impaired.
  • Child with multiple disabilities. Deafblindness - Specifics of communication and education of deafblind people.
  • Vocational training for people with visual impairment.
  • Possibilities of developing the key competences in pupils and students with visual impairment. Autonomy.
  • Spare time of blind and partially sighted people. Quality of life.
