- Course objectives
- A B2 course whose mission is to develop students' language in receptive (reading, listening), productive (speaking, writing), and interactive modes of communication. Its further aim is to foster autonomy in students by providing them with opportunities to regulate their own learning process. It also offers tasks that will enable students to develop their academic skills, for example researching sources, arguing a point, synthesizing information, giving feedback, mediating information, and problem-solving. Also, the course materials provide a wide range of activities that are aimed at helping students to acquire specialist vocabulary.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, the student will be able to: understand spoken texts dealing with SNE issues at B2 level of the CEFR; understand written texts dealing with SNE issues at B2 level of the CEFR; produce an argumentative synthesis; provide peer review; present a persuasive talk and participate in a professional discussion. They will also be able to use specialist terminology related to selected topics.

- Teaching methods
- Weekly a hundred-minute seminars designed to develop and practise both language competencies (productive, receptive & interactive) and soft skills (researching, synthesising, explaining, presenting, problem-solving and collaborating).
- Assessment methods
- Credit requirements: 1) Attendance (only two undocumented absences are allowed), completing in-term tasks/home preparation for classes, active participation in classes; 2) Submitting writing assignments: an argumentative synthesis & notes for discussion; 3) Giving a talk about the synthesis 4) Giving peer feedback on the synthesis 5) Oral exam: - presenting the tasks the student has worked on throughout the semester and reflecting on the process of accomplishing them. - sharing an interest in a SE topic - debating a controversial topic
