Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the system of varieties of contemporary Italian and the organization of the language area of ​​Italian and Italy. Furthermore, different levels of linguistic analysis will be presented and attention will be focused on the segmental and suprasegmental phonology of Italian (the phonetic-phonological system of contemporary Italian and its diatopic variants, Sandhi phenomena).
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and discuss the main features of the variational architecture of Italian and its phonological organisation; students will also be able to transcribe short segments of the language phonetically and they will be able to navigate the phonetic and phonological system of Italian.
