Course objectives
Latin for the Non-latinists III follows the course Latin for the Non-latinists II and is aimed to continue learning basic Latin grammar.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to:
- reproduce by heart nominal and verbal paradigms studied in the course (see syllabus of the course);
- explain grammatical rules studied in the course;
- describe the structure and function of selected Latin clauses;
- translate a simple coherent Latin text into Czech.
Syllabus
  • This course provides an overview of the following grammatical categories:
  • 1st and 2nd week: adjective and adverb grading;.
  • 3rd and 4th week: present subjunktive, imperfekt subjunctive.
  • 5th week: numerals.
  • 6th week: participium coniunctum, ablative absolute.
  • 7th week: plusquamperfect and future perfect indicative.
  • 8th week: future active participle, supine.
  • 9th week: perfect active infinitive, perfect passive infinitive, future active infinitive, future passive infinitive.
  • 10th week: nominative with infinitive.
  • 11th week: direct questions, indefinite pronouns.
  • 12th and 13th week: perfect and pluperfect subjunctives.

Teaching methods
Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, practice (translation and grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and preparatory homeworks are recommended.
Assessment methods
A requirement for granting the colloquium is the timely completion of a continuous assignment in the form of an answer sheet in IS MU and the successful completion of a written test verifying knowledge of the grammar covered (at least 70%). Active class participation is not required but is strongly recommended.

Teaching methods
Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, practice (translation and grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and preparatory homeworks are required.
Assessment methods
Requirements for gaining colloquium: regular class attendance (75%) and passing of the written test which examines the knowledge of grammar studied during the course.
