Course objectives
This course will deal with a set of memoirs from the first half of the 17th century. Characteristic features of this genre will be demonstrated by the parallel analysis of the chosen texts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Possibilities and limits of the interpretation of memoirs 2. The genre of memoir and its place in Baroque literature 3 - 4. Inner structure of texts. 5. The way of depicting reality. 6. Author narrator hero. 7. Poetic devices. 8. "Theatrum mundi" and its reflection in memoirs. 9. Religious perception of the world. 10. Confrontation with fictional production. 11. From non-fiction to fiction. 12. Conclusion.
