- Theories of Understanding in European Hermeneutics (M. Heidegger, H.-G. Gadamer, C.G. Jung). M. Heidegger: understanding as one of the essential and original properties of Dasein. Understanding as the purposeful human activity in the life-world. H.-G. Gadamer: understanding and Platonic dialogue. Gadamers conception of a dialectical, historical and projecting character of understanding. Understanding and speech events (sprachliches Geschehen)Understanding in the context of tradition. C. G. Jung: understanding and the theory of archetypes. The importance of archetypal structures for human understanding. Theories of understanding in Anglo-American Philosophy - P. Winch: understanding in relation to cultural context and social practices. C. Taylor: the influences of Wittgensteins theory of language games. Ethical and existential dimension of understanding. H.
