Course objectives
Central Europe at the threshold of the Iron Age; the Hallstatt culture; unification of Central Europe. Decline of the Urnfield cultures; eastern and south-eastern influences, their share in the emergence of the Hallstatt culture. Cultural situation in the Carpathian basin and the circum Alpine area in the 9th and 8th cent. The Hallstatt culture and its position in the cultural system of Europe – geographical spreading, history of research, chronological systems. Specifics of the regions and local groups. South-eastern Alpine area, north-eastern Alpine area and supra-Alpine region in the Hallstatt period. Lusatian culture in the Hallstatt period. Central Europe and the first ethnics (Scythians, Thracians, Agathyrs, Syginni, Illyrians) Collapse in the eastern Hallstatt circle. Starting of eastern elements in the material culture. Formation of the first ethnics in the neighbourhood of the Hallstatt culture.
