- Course objectives
- The main focus of the course is acquainting students with historical metamorphoses of the music structuring. The aim is the practical understanding of music forms in the time period since Middle Ages until today and obtaining proper analytical skills.
- Syllabus
- Homophonic style: Gregorian chant, secular song of 12-14th century. Polyphonic style: Madrigal. Imitation forms - canon, ricercar, fugue. Variation forms - passacaglia, ciaccona. Dance music of 16th and 17th century - Suite. Opera, oratorio. Rondeau forms - Sonata form (cantata, toccata), sonata cycle. Concerto grosso - concerto. Symphony, song, symphonic poem. Music form/structure in 20th century (serial music, "moment form", aleatory/stochastic music etc.).
