Course objectives
The lecture introduces students into basic categories, concepts, themes and decisive evolutionary forms of 20th-century fine arts. The topics are chosen with a view to pressing issues of fine arts functioning, contemporary theoretical discourse and the curriculum. Students will:
- Orient in the main art movements of the 20th century
- Intepret works of fine art regarding the specificity of different „poetics“
Understand the relationship between fine arts and its wide cultural context
Syllabus
  • - The concept of Modernism: a reaction to the impulses of Impressionism; the advent of Modernism at the end of the 19th century
  • - The concept of Avantgard: interconnections between society and art in the early 20th century
  • - Czech reactions to different art movements in the 20th century Abstract art; conceptualisation of art
  • - Between intuition and construction: expressive and rational approaches to art in the 20th Century
  • - The spectator as a co-creator: art as communication; action art and its metamorphoses
  • - Electronic media in the art of the last decades
  • - The Postmodern and art fusion, interpretation, quotation
  • - The role of movements and groups in the art of the 20th century
  • - Mediating art: museums, galleries, world exhibitions
