- Course objectives
- The lecture is focused on deepening the general historical knowledge from the history of the South Slavic nations. It deals with the resolution of the so-called Eastern Question, both the events of the individual Balkan lands and the Great Powers’ policy. In the initial hours, a synopsis is given of the development of the Eastern Question from the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca in 1774 to the Berlin Congress; it maps the urprisings of the South Slavic nations against the Turks and the course of the attempts for reform by the Turkish Empire, consider the ideas of the Balkan federation and Slavic mutualities. It also closely notes the Berlin Congress and the resulting situation for the Balkan nations. The thematic centre of gravity of the lecture, the period between the Berlin Congress and outbreak of World War I, constitute a thorough dismantling of Macedonian Question and the Albanian Question, as well as an account of the events leading to the Balkan Wars, which in essence meant a definitive solution to the Eastern Question.
