- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the system of varieties of contemporary Italian and the organisation of the linguistic space of Italian and Italy. In addition, the different levels of linguistic analysis will be introduced and attention will be focused on segmental and suprasegmental phonology of Italian.
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and discuss the main features of the variational architecture of Italian and its phonological organisation; students will also be able to transcribe short segments of the language phonetically.

- The varieties of Italian; the linguistic space of Italian and Italy. Phonetics and phonology of Italian. Suprasegmental phonology.
