Course objectives
The aim is to introduce the phenomen of Czech broadsides. We will be dealing with the old prints from Moravian Library. We will explore the typical issues of Czech broadsides and also the stereotypes, connected to the broadside ballads. Czech broadside ballads will be seen in the global perspective as the wide spread phenomenon, an important part of the popular culture.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- recognise the broadsides and describe their typical features
- analyse the history of the broadsides in the European context, describe the Czech specifics
- define the typical topics of broadsides a analyse their narratives, features and specifics
- search the broadsides in the both in the Czech and foreign catalogues and databasis
- describe and interpret the concrete broadside ballads - write a hand-out
