- Course objectives
- Latin for the Non-latinists IV follows the course Latin for the Non-latinists III, and this course aims to learn a few remaining phenomena of basic Latin grammar, but above all, to practice working with a coherent Latin text.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- explain grammatical rules studied in the course;
- understand and translate original Latin text;
- find relevant information related to a given text. - Syllabus
- Gerundium, gerundive and gerundive construction.
- Irregular verbs, praeteritopraesentia, semideponentia.
- Introduction to autonomous work with text.
- Reading and analysis of selected Latin sources on history of religion, cult or everyday life of choice. Readings include grammatical analysis of the text and cultural and historical commentary.

- Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, practice (translation and grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and preparatory homeworks are recommended.
- Assessment methods
- Course grade is determined by performance in a final written exam where students’ mastery of basic grammar and vocabulary is tested through a translation of a short self-contained Latin passage (dictionary allowed).
