- Course objectives
- Autonomous learning is an essential part of acquiring a new language. Many foreigners, however, go through a challenging period after arriving in a new cultural environment, which can make independent study significantly more difficult. During the course, participants will accompany a group of foreign students of Czech (Intensive Czech for University Studies course, MU Language Centre; students are mostly aged 18-25) and will try to strengthen their ability to study independently and integrate into Czech culture, especially with regard to their future studies at MU. The tutors will reflect on the students' progress and these reflections will form the basis for a final report to be discussed with the other tutors. During the course, tutors will be supervised by experienced teachers of Czech for foreigners from the MU Language Education Centre.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: - describe the stages of the process of acquiring Czech as a foreign language and the factors that influence it - plan the autonomous study of Czech by a foreign student - accompany a foreign student in orientation at MU - identify the specifics of Czech culture and its features that may be difficult to understand for members of other cultures - carry out reflection (on the student's progress and on their own activities)
- Syllabus
- - introductory meeting with the lecturers of the Language Learning Centre: introduction of the Intensive Czech for University Studies course, course methods, participant groups, distribution of tutors and foreign students - regular weekly meetings with assigned students, reflection on their student diaries, planning studies for the next week, searching for suitable universities in the Czech Republic for future studies - 1. reflective meeting with CJV lecturers - 2. reflective meeting with CJV lecturers - selection and accompaniment of a foreign student to a selected lecture at MU, its reflection - final meeting with CJV lecturers, reflection on tutoring based on reflective diary
