Course objectives
The lecture will deal with the development of the Czech literature from the nineteen-nineties to World War I.
Syllabus
  • The socio-political and cultural situation. Šalda and his generation. The group Česká moderna. Symbolism, decadence. The magazine Moderní revue. The group Katolická moderna. The key poets and prose writers of the first twenty years of the twentieth century. Naturalism, impressionism. The relation to European literatures.
