- Course objectives
- A series of lectures on PRL (People's Republic of Poland).
The topic covers history from 1945 to 1989 (strikes, constitution, Martial law), culture (socialist realism, movies, music, propaganda posters), literature (censorship, writers of PRL) and every day life (newspeak, permanent deficiency/shortage, PRL absurds, fashion). Concluding lectures will be devoted to comparison of PRL with European and US history.
After completing the course students will be able to:
- analyze historical data of a given period of Polish history
- discuss about a given period of Polish history - Syllabus

- 5. Solidarity.
- 6. Poets life, socrealism, II obieg (samizdat).
- 7. Newspeak.
- 8. Jak się żyło w PRL; culture, art, every day life.
- 9. Martial law.
- 10. Position of the Catholic church.
- 11. In the World's eyes (1945-1989, USA, Jugosławia, China, Europe, ZSRR).
- 12. The Round Table and events after '89.
- 13. Projection of St. Bareja movie: "Miś".
